Learning Objectives - Last names M-Z
At the end of the course the student will be able to describe the organization of the cell and the different tissues in relation with the different functions and the early events of morphogenesis.
Prerequisites - Last names M-Z
Basic knowledge (high school level) in biology, chemistry and chemistry of biological molecules.
Nucleus: nuclear envelope, nucleolus, nucleoplasm, chromatin (condensed and extended). Chromosomes, Cellular cycle. Mitosis and Meiosis.
Gametes, ovulation, gametogenesis, menstrual cycle, fertilization. Morphological events from first to fourth week of development. Cellular populations, stem cells. Apoptosis, necrosis.
Surface epithelial tissue: histogenesis, classification and main characteristics. Differentiation of cellular surface: microvilli, cilia, intercellular and cell-matrix junctions.
Transformed epithelia (including hard keratin appendages).
Observation and identification at light microscopy of specimens of tissues studied during the course
Analysis of digital images of cells and tissues. Introduction to digital images and methods for morphometric analysis and image segmentation of cell and tissue images. Analysis of digital histology slides.
